Gunther & Marlow

Kristin Taylor
Fiber art found me in 2021. The Covid quarantine was lifting, and after years of wanting to learn to weave, I finally gifted myself lessons at my local
yarn shop. I quickly became hooked, purchased a Rigid Heddle Loom,
and merrily began buying lots of cool yarn.
One day after a lesson, a picture of an adorable little bunny caught my eye. The picture was on a box of a needle felting kit, sitting on the sale table.
The next week he was still there. I asked the owner what
felting was, purchased the kit, and began an amazing journey
through the world of felting.

I haven't actually felted that bunny. Instead, the first thing I ever made
was a penguin my daughter named Gunther. Then I discovered
how to blend fibers and I designed and felted my own bunny.
His name is Marlow.

Today, Gunther & Marlow sit on the ledge in my studio
and watch over everything. They inspire me when a piece ends
up in my "bag of learning" that lives on the top shelf in a closet.
They smile at me when I add new colors to my wool wall.
But most of all, they remind me to breathe, try, and try again.
